Book Review~A Season for Tending by Cindy Woodsmall

It's clear to anyone who reads this blog that I love anything Amish, especially Amish fiction.  Cindy Woodsmall is one of my favorite authors-she is definitely in my top 5 favorites.  When I read my first book of hers, I was immediately hooked and quickly read everything she had out at the time.  The way she writes just draws you in immediately, and her characters are so real you feel like you know them personally!

Needless to say, I was very excited about her new series debuting-the name of the series is Amish Vines and Orchards, and A Season for Tending is the first book.  Ms. Woodsmall is wonderful with writing series-sometimes you find subsequent books in a series not as good as the first, but not here.

A Season for Tending is the story of Rhoda Byler, a young woman who is Old Order Amish. Rhoda has a strange gift of foreseeing future events-not something that is accepted in her community.  She is treated as an outsider, and there are people, Amish and 'Englisch', who are even afraid of her.  Rhoda also has a wonderful talent of gardening-herbs and berries are her specialty, and she has quite a business selling her bounty.

In another Old Order community, the King family is struggling to keep their apple orchard profitable.  Their lives intersect with Rhoda, and all of their families' lives change.  This is a book about trusting in God, and following His will for your life.

I devoured this book in a few days, and now I have the painful wait for the second book in the series, The Winnowing Season!  In the meantime, I plan to try out some of the yummy apple recipes that were at the end of A Season for Tending! Trust me-you have to read this book, you won't be disappointed!!

*Disclosure: I received a copy of this book from Waterbrook Multnomah in exchange for my honest review.
