Product Review~Natures True Medicine Vitamin D3

Vitamin D3 is a vitamin many people are deficient in, and research in recent years has shown how vital it is to our health.  Natures True Medicine has produced the #1 best vitamin D supplement available online today.  Their Vitamin D3 2000IU Supplement is 100% pure and premium quality.  It has 100% natural ingredients-no fillers, artificial colors or flavors, preservatives, or GMOs.

Did you know that Vitamin D is actually a hormone?  It triggers certain actions in the body including the most well known one, which is bone protection. Vitamin D3 is a vitamin that is critical to keeping both phosphorus and calcium in balance and being used properly. There are so many benefits to taking Vitamin D, from protecting your bones to fighting colds, flus and infections.  A "good" level of Vitamin D in the blood is 50 ng/mL or more. Almost 90% of people actually have less than 50. And 50-70% of people have less than 30 ng/mL!

I was very run down a few years back and found out I was Vitamin D deficient.  Since I started taking Vitamin D, I feel like a different person! I have my entire family taking Vitamin D too. Natures True Medicine Vitamin D3 is a quality product that I trust to give to my family.   There is no unpleasant taste or aftertaste, and they are SO easy to swallow.  The picture above that I took is one capsule next to a dime-tiny, right?  Even people who have trouble swallowing pills can swallow this one.

To learn more about Natures True Medicine Vitamin D3, check out their website.  You can purchase your own bottle of Vitamin D3 at Amazon.  Satisfaction is guaranteed or you get your money back.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Product Review~I Love My Dog Shampoo

Our dogs are part of our family.  They give so much unconditional love, and I want to make sure they are as comfortable as they can be.  Although we don't have fleas where we live, our dogs can still get dry, irritated skin.  Have you ever tried to sleep while your dog is scratching?  Not fun for either of you!

We have a purebred Schnauzer, Tulip, and a half Schnauzer/half Maltese, Java.  They seem to go through periods of itchiness, and I've used some shampoos that seem to make it even worse.  Many dog shampoos are very hard to rinse out, and often they are itching after a bath because they still have shampoo on them.

I Love My Dog Shampoo by Lovely Fresh is a high quality, natural dog shampoo that is free of soap, detergent, and alcohol.  It contains oatmeal and neem, to clean, moisturize, and relieve irritation.  It also nourishes the dog's coat so it will be thicker, shinier, and healthier looking.  It is biodegradable and comes in a recyclable bottle.

Here is Java trying out I Love My Dog Shampoo for the first time. First of all, let me tell you it smells heavenly!  I can't quite distinguish the scent, but it reminded my of orange creamsicle.   The scent lasts long after the shampoo too!  It got sudsy into a rich lather quickly, and did not irritate Java's eyes.  Best of all was how easily it rinsed out.  Java is not a fan of baths, and by the time you are at the rinsing stage of the bath, he is scrambling to get out of there!  So a quick rinse was very helpful.

I was completely pleased with I Love My Dog Shampoo.  It works great, and I love that it is natural.  You can purchase your own bottle at Amazon.  Lovely Fresh offers a money back guarantee if you are not satisfied with your purchase! Check out Lovely Fresh at their website.

Children's Book Review~A Star for Jesus

A Star for Jesus is an adorable board book for ages 4-8 written by Crystal Bowman and illustrated by Claudine Gevry.  It is published by Zonderkidz.  The book is die cut to have a star shape on one side, which my grandson liked.  It is a sweet, rhyming story that tells about the star shining on Jesus when he was born.  The illustrations are bright and colorful, perfect for young kids.  My grandson is 3 and loves this book, so I think it is great for younger than the suggested ages as well.  It is very sturdy and made to last through many readings.

A Star for Jesus will be a book we bring out during the Christmas season every year.  It would also make a wonderful gift for little ones and their parents.

Children's Book Review~The Legends of St. Nicholas

The Legend of St. Nicholas is a beautiful hardcover book written by Dandi Daley Mackall and illustrated by Richard Cowdrey.  It is published by Zonderkidz.

The story begins with Nick going Christmas shopping with his Dad.  He knows he should buy gifts for the family and friends on his list, but he really wanted to get something for himself.  In the store, he overhears a story being told to children about the legend of St. Nicholas.  St. Nicholas was a wealthy boy whose parents had taught him about the greatest gift ever given-the gift of Christ.  After his parents death, he began giving to the poor to celebrate Christ's birth.  Hearing this story made Nick realize he had forgotten the true meaning of Christmas. He buys gifts for everyone on his list, and with the money left he bought gifts for the poor.  It felt so good to give to others and remember the true meaning of Christmas.

What I Thought: The picture above is of my son Nick reading The Legend of St. Nicholas to his son, Daniel.  I love this picture, how Daniel is snuggled into his Dad and obviously engrossed in the story.  The pictures are absolutely gorgeous- bright and beautiful.  There is just the right amount of text that a school-age child could read it, and not too much that a young child like Daniel (3) will lose interest.  It is a beautiful, well written story, and will be a keepsake in our house for this special time of year.

You can purchase your own copy of The Legend of St. Nicholas at Zondervan.

Children's Book Review~Look Inside the Time of Jesus

Look Inside The Time of Jesus is a sturdy hardcover board book with lift-the-flaps inside on every page.  The text is by Lois Rock, with illustrations by Lorenzo Orlandi.  It is geared toward the 5-7 age range, but my 3 year old grandson and 12 year old son both really enjoyed reading it and lifting the flaps.

The Time of Jesus covers Jesus' birth to his resurrection, and places he went in between.  A few of the topics are 'By the Shores of Galilee', 'The Temple in Jerusalem', and 'A Roman Trial.'  Each page has several flaps of varying sizes that are easy to locate and open.  I really thought the text on each page was appropriate length for this age group-just enough to teach them but not lose their interest.  The illustrations are bright and entertaining.

Lift the flap books are a great way to engage and teach children.  Look Inside The Time of Jesus accomplishes this, and is very well made, making it able to last through multiple children.  It is published by Lion Children's Books.

Book Review~Promise To Cherish

This week, the
Christian Fiction Blog Alliance
is introducing
Promises to Cherish
Howard Books (October 7, 2014)
by
Elizabeth Yount

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Elizabeth Byler Younts is a member of the American Christian Fiction Writers. She is an Air Force officer’s wife and a homeschooling mom with two young daughters. She makes her home wherever her family is stationed. Elizabeth was Amish as a child and after her parents left the church she still grew up among her Amish family and continues to speak Pennsylvania Dutch.

ABOUT THE BOOK

As World War II draws to a close, nurse Christine falls in love with roguish Amish boy Eli and must choose between a new, uncertain life in the Amish faith or face the judgment of a conservative postwar American society for her past mistakes.

It’s 1945, and Christine Freeman is a nurse at Hudson River State Hospital, where she works alongside members of a Civilian Public Service unit. Eli is one of the conscies—conscientious objectors to the war—and he is doing his best to become a man of character instead of the immature heartbreaker he used to be back home in his Amish community.

Christine and Eli are friendly, but when an old acquaintance, Jack, returns home from the war, Christine’s world is violently turned upside down. Eli, heartbroken to see his friend so hurt, offers her an escape within his Amish community. Despite her misgivings, Christine is fully embraced by Eli’s community. She slowly begins to feel valued and loved as she learns the Amish way of life.

Christine finds herself falling for Eli. But soon, the abusive Jack discovers Christine in her Amish hideaway and starts causing trouble for the quiet community. Christine can’t see herself becoming Amish, and she knows that if Eli leaves the church to be with her, he will be shunned. Will she escape Jack and possibly have to give up the one thing she holds most dear, or will she follow her heart and promise to cherish the Amish man who loves her?

Book Review~Where Treetops Glisten

I love curling up with a good book while its cold and snowing outside!  A Christmas themed story makes it even better.  If you are like me, I have the perfect book for you!  It's actually three stories, by three different authors, and they are all intertwined with the same characters.

White Christmas, by author Cara Putnam, is the first story in the book.  College student Abigail Turner is from a loving family, but her heart is broken from losing her boyfriend in the war.  World War II has taken its toll on everyone, and Abigail is afraid to get close to young men again.  When a troubled young man enters her life, will she be able to open her heart?

In Sarah Sundin's I'll Be Home For Christmas, Abigail's brother Pete is home from the war, where the fighter pilot was a hero.  The war has greatly affected him, and he yearns for the peace and hope he used to feel.  A widow and her little girl enter his life-will they help him find what he is looking for?

The third story in Where Treetops Glisten is Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, by Tricia Goyer.  The main character in this story is Meredith Turner, "Merry", who is Abigail and Pete's sister.  She is a combat nurse in the war and is stationed in the Netherlands, working on the frontline.  She couldn't wait to get out of their small town in Indiana, but now she misses her small town and her family.  Her heart still broken after the betrayal of her boyfriend David, she immerses herself in her work to try to forget.

What I Thought: All three of the stories in Where Treetops Glisten were outstanding.    I enjoy historical fiction, but have only read a few books from this time period.  I'm especially interested in this time in history as my parents were pre-teens during WWII.  During a recent visit they told me all about their memories from this time.  My Mom even got out her ration books to show me.  They were fascinating!

The Turner family portrays the average American family in the 1940s that is impacted by World War II.  What a scary time for all Americans, but the Turners still held onto their faith in God and cherished their family.  I enjoyed that each of the three stories had some romance, and that each of the stories focused on a different Turner sibling.  The stories all pulled me in, making me feel like I had been transported back to this important time in our history.

Product Review~Body Merry's Hyaluronic Dew Serum and Pro-A Serum

I'm at an age where I've really noticed differences in my skin the past few years.  It is getting so dry, especially in the dry winter months.  It also has a different texture, and of course I'm seeing new little lines every day!  I was excited to be invited to try out two great products from Body Merry.  I received a 1 ounce bottle of Hyaluronic Dew Serum and a 1 ounce bottle of Pro-A Serum.  These two products can be used separately, but really work well together, with the Hyaluronic Dew  Serum in the morning and the Pro-A Serum used at night.

The Hyaluronic Dew Serum is an intensive hydrating formula that gives you an invisible veil of moisture for your face.  It is professional grade, plant derived Vegan Hyaluronic Acid that is supported by powerful natural and organic antioxidants.  Not only will your skin be nourished and moisturized, the ingredients will help tackle wrinkles and fine lines.  It is free from fragrance, alcohol, and harsh chemicals.  The key ingredients are plant derived Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin C, wildcrafted Green Tea, Aloe, Jojoba Oil, Geranium Essential Oil, and Vitamin E.

I found the Hyaluronic Dew Serum to be very nourishing.  The moisture seemed to last long into the day, and I felt my skin looked healthier, but not shiny/oily. The natural scent is not unpleasant-just a neutral, mild aroma.  Definitely a great way to start the day.

The Pro-A Serum has the maximum potency of 2.5% Retinol.  I think we've all heard about the great effects of Retinol on skin.  Pro-A Serum helps improve the texture of your skin, while working hard to fight the fine lines, wrinkles, and spots.  Along with Retinol, Pro-A Serum contains plant derived hyaluronic acid to lock in moisture and minimize irritation.  Other key ingredients are Green Tea, Aloe, Jojoba Oil,  Vitamin E, Witch Hazel, Wheat Germ Oil, and Wildcrafted Propolis.  The formula does not contain any parabens, sulfates, phthalates, fragrances or alcohol.

With the Pro-A Serum, since I used it just before going to bed, I couldn't tell how my skin felt while I slept :)  But, I do know that the two products together-Pro-A Serum and Hyaluronic Dew Serum, have made my skin look and feel better.  I'll continue to use this dynamic duo!

Visit the Body Merry website at www.bodymerry.com .  Click on the following links to read more about the products at their website, with links to the products on Amazon.

Product Review~Super Bright Glow Stick Bracelets

All kids like glow sticks, and I bet a lot of adults would admit they do too!  I recently had the opportunity to review a set of 100 Super Bright Premium Quality Longest Lasting Glow Stick Bracelets.  Of course, when the package arrived, I had my 12 year old son wanting to get into it immediately!

These glow sticks are 8" long premium quality, long lasting glow stick bracelets.  They are non-toxic and CPSIA compliant.  They are guaranteed fresh from the factory, and have a two year shelf life if not activated.   They will glow super bright for 8 to 10 hours before starting to fade out.  Once they start fading, they may continue to emit some light for up to 36 hours.

The sticks come straight, so you can create more than bracelets if you wish.  We received blue, green, yellow, orange, and pink.  They come with 100 connectors, so you can use your imagination to create all sorts of things!

First, my 12 year old son and 3 year old grandson tried them out.  They had so much fun making bracelets, necklaces, hats and connecting several to make a long whip.  The next week was my son's birthday party.  I brought out the Glow Sticks when it got dark, and those boys were entertained for hours!  They made all sorts of things!  They were all covered with them on their arms, necks, heads, ankles, and waists!  They had a battle with whips too!  Here is a picture from the festivities:

I found the glow sticks to be durable and long lasting.  When activated, the colors were bright and lasted many hours. If you want to keep your kids and their friends entertained, order your own pack of 100 premium quality glow stick bracelets at Amazon.

Book Review~The River by Beverly Lewis

The River is the story of two sisters, formerly Amish, who now live in the Englisch world. Tilly is now married with children, but Ruth is still single. They grew up in Lancaster County with their parents and siblings, but left their community to start new lives.  Their relationships with their family are now strained, Tilly's more so than Ruth as she was the first daughter to leave.  Her parents blame her for convincing her sister Ruth to leave as well.  The death of their baby sister Anna in a river  many years ago still haunts Tilly, who feels responsible for her death.

When news travels of their father's declining health and an anniversary party for their parents, Tilly and Ruth make the difficult decision to return home to visit.  Will they be accepted and welcomed by their family, or will their family turn their backs on them?  Tilly especially struggles with many issues from her childhood, and just doesn't know if she can face her parents.  Ruth, having been hurt by her former Amish beau, is having feelings for him stirred back up again when faced with the possibility of seeing him again.

Can this family work through their past and forgive and accept one another?

What I Thought: Beverly Lewis is a very talented author, and I have read many of her books. Once again, she has done an exceptional job of drawing the reader into a beautifully crafted story.  I was riveted from the first page to the last!  I've read many Amish novels, and found this story fascinating with the return of former Amish to their family.  Their was so much emotion in these girls wanting to be accepted into their family, but Amish take members leaving very seriously.  Often they are never spoken to again.  Tilly has many unanswered questions from her past, never understanding why she was treated harshly by her father.  There was so much pain from the past with the death of Anna and Ruth's broken relationship with her beau.

If you are a fan of Amish fiction, you'll love The River by Beverly Lewis.  If you've never read Amish fiction before, The River will get you hooked!

Book Review~Becoming Bea by Leslie Gould & Author Kindle Giveaway/Facebook Party!

Becoming Bea is the fourth book in author Leslie Gould's series The Courtships of Lancaster County.  The other three titles in the series are Courting Cate, Adoring Addie, and Minding Molly.  I've read the entire series, and have really enjoyed it!  Each book focuses on a different Amish woman, the trials in her life, and her journey to romance.  The entire series is Shakespeare inspired, with Becoming Bea inspired by Much Ado About Nothing.

In Becoming Bea, Beatrice Zook is a young Amish woman who lives at home with her overbearing sister, her sister's husband, and her mother.  She cooks and cleans for her family, but doesn't really have a role in her community.  She is introverted and content to stay at home reading and writing in her journal. She knows that to be out in the community, she needs to learn patience toward others.  She had a previous relationship with Ben Rupp, but that went sour and all they do is bicker now when they see each other.

An opportunity comes up for Bea to help parents in her community care for their new triplets.  She doesn't have experience with babies, and is anxious if she can do the job.  But she is determined to try, as she desperately wants to get out of her house and become her own person.  One drawback to the job is she has to spend more time with Ben, who is working in the new parent's business.  Although obvious to everyone else that they have feelings for each other still, they spend most of their time arguing.

Will Beatrice gain the patience and confidence she desires?  Will she and Ben manage to get past their troubled past and find true love?

What I Thought: Having read the first three books in the Courtships of Lancaster County series, I knew I was in for a treat with Becoming Bea.  Leslie Gould is a great storyteller of Amish fiction.  As with her other books, I was immediately drawn into the story and kept interested throughout.  Her characters are well developed and easy to relate to.  Along with the romance, the main character Bea has her own problems she is working through.

I love babies and have always been fascinated with multiples, so this story was a real treat reading about the enormous amount of work caring for triplets!  Especially when you consider the Amish don't have a lot of our modern conveniences that make our lives easier when caring for babies!  If you enjoy Amish fiction, you can't go wrong with Becoming Bea!

About the author: Leslie Gould is the coauthor, with Mindy Starns Clark, of the #1 CBA bestseller The Amish Midwife, a 2012 Christy Award winner; ECPA bestseller Courting Cate, first in the Courtships of Lancaster County series; and Beyond the Blue, winner of the Romantic Times Reviewers' Choice for Best Inspirational Novel, 2006. She holds an MFA in creative writing from Portland State University and has taught fiction writing at Multnomah University as an adjunct professor. She and her family live in Portland, Oregon.

Book Review~The Promise by Beth Wiseman & Author Kindle HDX Giveaway!

Mallory Hammond has been determined to save a life since she was a child, when she watched her cousin die because she could not get a new kidney.  She promised her cousin that she would save someone else.  This promise has been driving her ever since.  Mallory has a good life, which includes the man she has loved for several years, Tate.  She doesn't want for money as she has a sizable trust fund, but she is restless to fulfill her promise.

Through her boss, Mallory meets a man in Pakistan online who has a daughter that is very sick with leukemia.  The health care where they live, a dangerous part of the world, is very poor, so the man wants to bring his daughter to America for treatment.  Despite her family and Tate's protests, Mallory goes to Pakistan to marry the man in name only, so that she can save his daughter's life.  What she doesn't foresee is that she has gotten herself into a very dangerous situation that could end her life.

What I Thought: I've read books by Beth Wiseman before and loved them, but I must say The Promise is my new favorite.  Based on a true story (a friend of the author's), this book had me reading the last 100 pages in one sitting.  Talk about being on the edge of your seat!!!  The Promise took me a while to get into, but once Mallory set her trip to Pakistan in motion I was hooked! The book really makes you stop and think about how horribly women are treated in other cultures.  If you like suspense, The Promise is a definite must read!

About the Author: Beth Wiseman is the best-selling author of the Daughters of the Promise series and the Land of Canaan series. Having sold over 1.3 million books, her novels have held spots on multiple Bestseller lists. She was the recipient of the prestigious Carol Award in 2011 and 2013. Children's Book Review~Guess Who Noah's Boat

Guess Who Noah's Boat is written by Matt Mitter and published by Kregel Publications.  It is a very sturdy board book for ages 2-4.  The pages are glossy and colorful, with rhyming clues for the child to guess which animal going onto Noah's boat is hidden under the flap.  This would be an easy book to wipe off  clean after toddlers have their hands on it.

Here is my grandson Daniel, age 3, enjoying Guess Who Noah's Boat.  He loves the rhyming verses, and of course the lift up flaps are his favorite!  Little ones always love lift-the-flap books.  This one is sturdy enough to weather the use of toddlers over time.  While Guess Who Noah's Boat doesn't tell the story of Noah, it is a great book for this age range.  The illustrations are cheerful and very well done.

Guess Who Noah's Boat is available for purchase at Kregel Publications.
